US/CAN: For Sale
ElectraVan
For Sale: 1980 Jet Industries ElectraVan with under 5000 original miles! It is in Santa Cruz, CA.
This is an all-electric vehicle; it is not a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. It plugs into and charges from a standard household 110V outlet (or a 220V outlet for faster charging).
The body is a Subaru 600, but Jet Industries in Austin, Texas installed the electrical components and sold it as a new, zero-mile electric vehicle in 1980. It’s not a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV); it can be legally driven on the highway. (Note: I have another one just like it that I have driven daily for a year. I rarely drive mine on the freeway as it does not maintain adequate freeway speeds. I stick to roads with a 45 or 50 mph speed limit.) Best of all, it produces zero emissions!
As of today, June 29th, I have dropped the price to $7000 (firm) in order to get it on the road and move on to other projects. All components are fully functional. It just needs some body work and paint. A buyer who is willing to drive it as is and save up to make it look better later could grab it now. If that buyer doesn't come along soon, I'll take care of the appearance and raise the price accordingly. If you agree with me that this is the smartest and cutest (I call it the "ElectraCute" though it has never shocked me) car on the road for the price, you shouldn't wait. There are not many of these around, and someone might beat you to it. Rather than pour money into your gas tank (and the oil companies’ pockets), put it into an electric vehicle soon!
Note: There are no tax incentives for the purchase of used electric vehicles. California does give a rebate on the purchase of a few new alternative fuel vehicles, but there are none on the market comparable to the ElectraVan (and ElectraVans were only manufactured for a few years). In the coming years, more electric vehicles will be on the market. They will be costly. And how much gasoline do you want to buy while you are waiting for them to come out?
Vehicle Specifications & Performance:
Seats: 5 Curb Weight: 2351 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight: 3250 lbs. Height: 5’3” Length: 10’ Width: 4’5”
Transmission: Manual, 4-speed with newly re-built clutch.
Top Speed: 50 mph (65+ mph going downhill, but velocity decreases going uphill).
Range: 20 to 40 miles +/-, depending on speed, load, and condition of the battery pack. Note: The fewer miles you drive before charging, the longer the batteries will last. Range is best during warmer weather and lower during cold weather. Range will be lower at first as these batteries are new. There will be a break-in period of a number of weeks.
Wheels: 10” split rims; could be upgraded to 12”.
Note: The 8 gallon diesel fuel tank is used for powering the heater/defroster. This can be replaced with a ceramic heater, thus maintaining the all-electric, zero emissions status. I have not checked the condition of the fuel tank; it may well be corroded and unusable. I removed the tank from mine and prefer to avoid the use of fuel altogether. I got through this winter just fine here in Santa Cruz County without a heater or defroster.
Electrical System Specifications
System Voltage: 102VDC. It uses 17 six-volt flooded deep-cycle batteries (brand new Interstate batteries included) which cost about $100 each and will last 2 to 5+ years, depending on use (not overextending the range) and regular maintenance (adding distilled water as needed).
Motor: Prestolite
Controller: General Electric EV-1 (known as the “GE Growler” as it is far from silent; more modern controllers run on a frequency that the human ear cannot detect, so EV’s are usually silent; the upside is that the noise produced by this controller actually serves as a safety feature because people and animals can hear us coming, an especially important consideration for the visually impaired; people often comment that it sounds like my van is playing a cello. The controller could be replaced with one that is silent and would increase acceleration, speed, and range
($1725 plus CA sales tax and $20 shipping: electroauto.com/catalog/price-pts.shtml#dcdrive model number 1231).
Charger: 110V/220V, uses standard household plugs; charges in 2 to 10 hours, depending on state of discharge. Charging costs pennies on the dollar compared to gasoline.
DC/DC Converter: None; the charger charges a separate 12V chassis battery (new one included) for lights and accessories.
I know of no other Electric Vehicle that offers all of the features of the ElectraVan. It seats 5; most seat only 2. It reliably cruises at 45 mph; others won’t exceed 40 and most are governed at 25. If I could afford to have two, I’d keep this one for sure!
The following website has tons more info on these vehicles, including all the downloadable documents you could ever need (service manual, owner's manual, etc.): http://public.orb.com/orb/html/public/profile.html?l=Electravan600

EU: For Sale
City eL Electric Car UK based For sale..£2500
This car is virtually immaculate and has done only 261 miles from new. It was one of two bought new by Maurice Gibb of the BGees and never registered for the road only used on his private estate.
Three new 12 volt deep discharge semi-traction batteries have just been installed. Insurance is around £100 with "free" road tax disc because of being electric.
Speed is 30 mph and range is 30 miles, think enclosed moped since the City El is more akin to these than a car.
The Danish designer's goal was a light wt efficient and simple electric car requiring only 3 batteries, three moped wheels, and a single seat enclosed in a plastic body. This was preferred over adapting a conventional design car which requires more batteries thus adding even more weight to only achieve the same performance.
The result is a unique, efficient daily commuter more akin to a motorbike but with safety and weather protection.
Normal driving functions, indicators, hazards, flasher, reverse and fog light, two stage heater and blower, intermittent parallelogram wiper/washer, hydraulic three wheel brakes, retractable 3 point seat belt.
Can be recharged from a 13 amp plug by the onboard charger and monitor.
The City El has been made for 20 years and is still in production in Germany with a huge enthusiast base.
Just driven twelve miles to the MOT station and it sailed through with a small crowd watching on.
Alas I must sell since an electrical problem has developed and I will very soon be moving so no time to sort it out. Car is inop at present but since it was going great with the new batteries i'm sure its down to the voltage monitoring system which I understand can be oversensitive. Some owners have disabled it with good results.
There are only about seven of these in the UK and there is a comprehensive knowledge base existing among the owners.
I have an English copy of the workshop manual and a German copy of the owners manual to accompany the car.
These cars are still built in Germany so parts are no problem.
Overall size is 2741 mm by 1060 mm and height is 1260 mm.
Weight is 290 kg
The Cabriolet is now unique as this model is no longer made,
Construction is all plastic sandwich with injected foam making for a very rigid structure.
These cars new are over £ 10,000 in Germany...click on the first web link below and then click the blue box for price.
