The race is on. Louis Palmer, the man who circumnavigated the world in his Solartaxi with solar power only (see picture above) is the organizer of the Zero Race. A race where teams compete against eachother with vehicles using renewable energy only. Until now already 7 teams have signed up and it is like that ther are more to join! The Zero Race is supported by the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme). Checking the participating teams and their vehicles are a guarantee for an entertaining and thrilling race around the world with zero emissions. So far the following teams have signed up: Green advertising Team - Tesla Roadster Omoco Team - OmOcO DC-Tracer Team - DC-Tracer Racing Green Endurance Team - Radical Erockit Team - Erockit Loremo Team - Loremo Power plaza Team - Power Plaza EV Vespino Team - Vespino Not officially announced: Twike Team... - Twike To participate you need to comply with the following: * Vehicles drive at least 240 km of distance at not less than 80 km/h * recharging time must not be more than 4 hours * Motorbikes drive not less than 120 km with one battery charge, their batteries may be changed during the race * Motorbikes and cars must reach a distance of at least 450 km per day, with not more than 4 hours of recharging during Lunch time * Carry at least one driver and one passenger (for bikes 1 person only) * Be propelled by an electric motor Competition criteria are as follows: * Popularity (opinion polls by people/spectators along the way) * Reliability (judged on numbers of breakdowns) * Affordability, efficiency, overall energy consumption (judged by car manufacturers) * Design and sex-appeal (judged by the public) * Power: speed, acceleration and range (judged by a panel of racing car drivers) * Safety (judged by engineers) More details about the race at http://www.zero-race.com ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network
