It is known to every one that plastics does harm to nature, both land, water and air. Still no government wants to ban the use of plastics. The plastic drinking bottles are a real harm to the land. It pollutes the air while burning. So i would really insist the government to really ban the plastics and start using the alternatives. The citizens of the mother earth we are also responsible for saving the planet earth. So folks , what do you think the real alternative of plastics? Do you agree in the necessity for banning unwanted plastic products?

I take a very "carlinist" view of "saving the planet" and "plastics"

It's not that saving the quality of the environment isn't important, it's just that when you rephrase it in terms of saving our own asses (and those of our decendants) instead of some "saving the planet" you can get more buy-in from everybody as it's no longer seen as a hippie-liberal only issue. Or, to rephrase it as Sally Struthers:

Do you like to breathe clean air? Sure! We all do!

Plastics are *good* in the sense that they are lightweight, easily recycled, etc. The skin of the Twike is made of Luran S, and 11 years later hasn't rusted a bit icon_wink.gif Now plastic/styrofoam disposable plates, cups, silverware, etc... not so much!

The real alternative to these are real plates and silverware and taking the time after the picnic, party or outing. And holding the manufacturer's responsible for cradle-to-grave accountability -- requiring that the manufacturer provide an easy way to return the product at the end of its lifecycle for breakdown and recycling.

Commute suck? Twike it; You'll like it!

There are also biodegradable plastics that are made from plants.

So , we already have the technology to have plastics and use them in a sustainable way ... it just isn't as cheap to do it sustainably.
