Hi all, I regularly collect all the green kitchen waste to bring it to the collection point. From there the waste is transported to a biogas facility where it is used to refuel cars and/or producing electric energy. Does someone have figures how much energy a ceratin amount of green waste can produce? I am a bit worried that collection all the green waste uses more energy than it actually produces... The good thing is, the truck collecting the waste is powered by biogas resp. natural gas. |

I do not have figures, but methane could also be made from sewage and animal and plant waste from farms, too. The good news is that after the methane hs been produced, the nitrogen in the remaining material is "fixed" i.e. it does not dissolve in water, and therefore it does not wash away in the first rain. It is better quality fertilizer after you make methane from it. This could really improve farming by improving the soil. Sincerely, Neil |
