CO2 to Carbon Monoxide and Then to Methanol and Gasoline

There is one interesting way to use CO2 and turn it into a useful product - use it to make gasoline. This is how it can be done:

"Using concentrated solar energy for power, a research team from Sandia National Laboratories is building a prototype device intended to chemically “reenergize” carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide using concentrated solar power. Carbon monoxide could then be used to serve as a building block to synthesize a liquid combustible fuel,such as methanol or even gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.([url]

Well, as they say, the devil is in the details. And as long as we do not have precise cost estimates for such a process, it is difficult to call it a practical breakthrough.
