Came across a video on youtube recently starring George Carlin, a US stand-up comedian. George Carlin died not long ago in 2008. He won four grammy awards for his albums. Carlin was noted for his black humor as well as insights on politics, the English language, psychology, religion and various taboo subjects.

One of his performances is about 'Saving the planet'...
George Carlin often uses the F-word and other strong language. That might not be everyones taste! But You might as well not agree to all his views. But never forget, he is a comedian! He wants us make to think and reconsider. Nothing wrong with that.

"Saving the planet? We don't even know how to care for eachother!"

Are we saving the planet or do we just want to save the human race? icon_rolleyes.gif

Let the discussion begin!

I'm a big Carlin fan, may he never rest in peace!

Carlin gets it right -- the planet will survive, it's YOU and ME that will become extinct, at which point the planet will have what it needed from us, tons and tons of plastic!

The green movement would do well to change their focus from 'Save the Planet' to 'Save Yourselves' -- that tends to motivate people (at least Americans) a lot better icon_wink.gif

The comedian is the decendant of the court jester, whose job it was to speak truth-to-power in a jesting way so as not to lose his head. Carlin was one of the best.

Commute suck? Twike it; You'll like it!

Yeah, this guy is pretty cool, pity I did not come across him earlier. I like his straight and 'down-to-earth' thinking. And man, what a genius when it comes to playing with words!

A absolutely agree with you, saving yourself has a mich higher impact. Many people just do nothing if it doesnt affect them directly. I like the comparison Al Gore made in his movie with the frog in the glas of water. If it gets a little warmer - no big deal - it's nice isn't it? But what if the water suddenly gets warm and unpleasant - then we get going much quicker!

Well it's true, even with all our nuclear weapons, radioactive material and industrial waste, we couldn't actually destroy the earth, or even all life on it, if we tried. So yes, it's mainly about saving ourselves.

But at least for some of us, it's about more than that. It's about saving at least part of the rich, complex ecosystem we've inherited but are busy destroying wholesale.

Down off the soap-box now.

Very well saying from George Carlin, lets assume the planet will survive but it's still no harm to use less plastic!

Carlin is the real man. Looking forward for someone who can continue his legacy for Saving the Planet and getting awards too. We can save the planet in our own ways by living a greener life.

What's the point in saving the planet if we don't survive?
Everything we are doing should be benefiting the rest of us somehow. It's possible - it's just not always done.
What's the point of bringing your own bags to the organic market if you arrive in an SUV?

Consider that you may drive a planet friendly vehicle - but how do you wash it?
Do you know that most car washing wastes anywhere from 10 to 60 gallons of water PER WASH?!
I use GatorGlo and use...... NO WATER! Bam! That's beauty in motion.
