... might help to improve the world of our children ... And one of these steps lead me to this forum - after acquiring my fine E-Alleweder. Its real fun and well appreciated by the people around - my children are proud, even though its single seated vehicle. Jörg - changing my personal mobility |

Hello Jörg, I fully agree with your statement and would like to welcome you to our small but active community. Congratulations to your E-Alleweder. One of the most efficient vehicles there is! I hope you enjoy it and I wish you safe driving. How does the E-Alleweder performing in the winter? Cheers, Stefan |

The Alleweder is my first recumbent bike, I have to get used to it now ... The main difficulty is the snow slush in random places. The main roads are free and no real problem. Fresh snow is ok, just reduce acceleration (its better with electric support, as the pedaling is not steady enough to prevent slipping). All sliding had been under control so far. Good luck that I don't have to use the cycle paths, those are awful! I tried some country roads. There had been ice in the middle and at the sides - there is always one wheel on ice incrustations ... OK, must of vehicles with a different track width than cars will have problems here. The temperature is no problem, I close the tarpaulin - and it stays warm inside. Without the tarpaulin the legs are getting cold. I have two battery packs and use them parallel. Giving me fine acceleration (easy participating the traffic flow) and (at temparatures around 0 Celsius a range of 50km. My energy consumption (just on 220km) is less then 1.5kWh per 100km. This should improve with better fitness of mine The awareness in traffic is much better than expected. Cars passing with more distance and are not approaching too close. Its great! Jörg |

I am now on my second winter with the Alleweder 4 (very similar dot Alleweder 6 in respect of winter-funtionality....) So my 10 cent: Most of the time, roads are free of snow and ice here, due to traffic and good "anti winter" work of the road department. Because of this, it does not make sense for me, to use special winter tires. the increased resistance oon 99 % of my way's overweights the advantages in some situations. In Adition to that, a secondary sett of wheels is quite expensive, because the rear Wheel includes gearshift (AW4) or even motor (AW6). But im neccecary, the grip could be greatly improve by special winter tires (already on the market...). So everything i am telling now is with a regular set of bicycle-tires (Schwalbe Marathon Plus). I am driving in every condition. I never failed to reach my destination in the last two winters. As long as the road department does it'S job, i can drive, or at very steep roads, i have to push the Alleweder from outside(because of lack of traction with ice and snow on the rear wheel...), witch is no problem with a weight of approx 50 kg. On flat road, 5 cm of snow or slush is no problem, if there ist more, there might not be enought traction on the rear wheel to keep going. As long as the regular cars make a flat surface on the road, there are no problems, but if there is only a tire-track, then you stand no chance to drive because of the three-track-concept of the alleweder when there is too much snow or slush, but driving at regular times, this never happend to me. Of course happens a few times in the winter me, that i have to get out of the Alleweder and push is a small part of the way because i do not have enough traction on the back wheel. But even in an winter like this (very "good" winter here this year) i am driving more than 99 % of my ways...) Alleweder 4

Yeah, its great! I can feel the air, and my body stays comfortable warm inside. As it is now I achieve an average speed of 26km/h, top speed around 45km/h. This is really sufficient to go with the car traffic inside our cities ... Calcultated as fuel consumption I use, driving above mentioned speed, about 0.15l/100km would mean 1568 miles per gallon (US) - http://www.convertworld.com/de/kraftstoffverbrauch/Liter+pro+km.html. Yes, this is a little better than just reducing the thirst for fuel by 50% - even if the the electricity I use would be produced by burning oil at 25% efficiency (power plant, transmission, conversion/storage (LiIon)) would be 0.6l/100km (392 mpg (US)). At the moment more than 15% of electricity in Germany is produced with renewables. So I'm somewhere in between. My plan is, after one year driving, calculating my energy needs and install some photovoltaics. Hmm, maybe I forgot that I burn some body fat ... - and when its gone I might need a little more food ... At the end I will stil be a good bit better than using a car. I will try to calculate my total need for mobility, event though it might be complicated ... Regards Jörg |
