Hello, Can someone here quickly explain how the i-MiEV is driven? Is there a gas pedal, how to activate cruise control and what about regenerative braking? How is this achieved with the i-MiEV? Thanks for a short a explanation. I just wonder how the industry solves the issue of acceleration/deceleration/regenerative braking and cruise control...Thanks.

Hi,

the car behaves (more or less) like the Citroen Saxo electrique:

The acceleration (not gas) pedal has a neutral position shortly before it is all the way "out" - after this, automatic regenerative braking (recuperation) starts. So, if you don't press the pedal, the car decelerates noticeably. If you hold the pedal at its neutral position, it's almost like coasting.

The strength of this automatic recuperation can be adjusted via the automatic-style selector lever (positions P, R, N, D, B, C). P is for parking, R for reverse, N for neutral, D for driving with medium strength recuperation, B for driving with strong recuperation (long downhill routes, so you don't have to use the brake pedal) and C for "comfortable", weak recuperation (for highways or cross country). Acceleration is the same in all settings.

In addition to that, you get very strong recuperation as soon as you touch the brake pedal (I guess as soon as the brake lights come on). If you press harder, you use the disc brakes in addition to that.

There is no cruise control available. icon_frown.gif
