Even though Opel claims it to be no Hybrid (with is theoretical true...), i belive it belongs here. Known facts: 111 kW / 150 Horsepowers, 370 Nm Batterie: 16 kWh Li-Ion, 180 kg 0-60 mph : 9 sec Lasting 10 Years/ 240000 km Range: 60 km electric, with onboard range extender > 500 km I am not so sure how reliable these informations are, because the report (CT 14.9.09) has at least one major error: The state that the batterie can be recharged by a regular 230 V Outlet here in Germany in 2,5 Hours. Loading 16 kWh in that time is impossible without an high-power outlet...( max 3.6 kW -> max 9 kWh in 2.5 hours !). If the rest of the numbers would be true, the Ampera would need almost 27 kWh per 100 km If the battery-liftetime is calculated on Electric-only, this would mean 4000 Cycles. I am curious, what of this will become reality. But with this figures (27 kWh per 100 km...) i would not even waste a second thinking about buying an Ampera... Alleweder 4

The Ampera is basically a clone of the Volt. The figures are as usual the 'best case scenario'. Amazing is that Opel knows the lifespan of its battery without field experience. Hmm...Sounds not very trustworthy to me... The ct magazine is know as quite reliable source, but they better do what the know best: write articles about computers, not cars. GM and Opel have missed out on one of the most important points when developing an EV: Weight. But then, its not really an EV, at best its a range-extended EV (REEV). If the Ampera does only 20 miles in all-electric mode, then its a big milestone for the number of electrically driven miles as most people do not drive much more than that anyway... ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network

I consider the range-extension- concept to be the most promissing to be accepted by drivers of normal cars. This concept offers all posibilities to solve further problems of electric cars like heating, just heat the car by using the rangeextender for cogeneration of heat and power. Because of the high efficiency of cogeneration of heat and power this would be more enviromental friendly than using a independent vehicle heater and charging from the electric grid. So far i consider the Ampera to be a good concept, and a good field experiment for RE-EV's. But it's engergyconsumption makes it even more harmfull to the enviroment than a economical fuel burner, especialy than charged from the electric grid... Really sad to say, this car should for saving the enviromen not be driven! For me an electric vehicle with 4-5 seats should not use more than 10 - 15 kWh per 60 miles driven in an economic way. Usualy cars use in dayly usage more than the Companies claim, so i don't want to guess, how much precious electric energy the ampera will really waste. So beside the interesting technical Concept the Ampera seams to be a true electricity-burner, something that fits perfect to the usual GM-strategy... I can only hope that splinters of its technologie may some times be used in more efficient cars or the Ampera may be an "icebreaker" for other EV'S, otherwise there would be nothing positiv to say about the enviromental impact of the Ampera!
