Here in the UK, a lot of people have had problems getting electric cars and car conversions insured. Is this a problem in the US as well?

If so, are there any companies out there who specialise in insuring electric cars in the US? I could do with some contacts if anyone has any..?

It has been my experience and from what I have read and heard from others...

Just about any Insurance company can.

Individual experiences tend to be varied ... Person A might hate company X and love company Y ... Person B might love company X and hate company Y.

It seems to me the insurance agent you deal with ends up being the largest contributing factor both for or against someone's experience being good or bad.

Insurance Agent General Types:

#1>
Some insurance agents have no experience or interest in dealing with less common policies ... They do what they have always done day to day ... and when someone brings something slightly unusual they choke... don't know what to do ... give bad information ... discourage ...etc...

#2>
Other insurance agents have experience already and already know what they are talking a bout and are honest and helpful.

#3>
Other Insurance agents are happy to help and even if they didn't start already having experience they will do the work and put in the extra effort to research it and find it all out.

#4>
The last class of insurance agent is the make a sale at any cost no morals agent.

What about rebates? Is it common to get discounted premiums if you drive electric? Over here in Switzerland some companies reduce your premium by 10-20 percent. Have you made the same experience?

It will fall back to which type of Insurance Agent you have to deal with.

I have read about some getting lowered insurance rates ... and others having to pay higher rates.

I think as there are more on the market there will be more consistency but for now ... the type of agent you are dealing with has a truly massive influence.
