Just came across the XR-3 on the net.

A Three-Wheel Super-Mileage Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle
You can build from plans...(from their website)

Does anyone know more about the project? How many have been built?
There's also a video where the car can be seen in action (with a diesel engine presumably)

FYI - I've a couple of motorcycles with 3 wheeels; the Vectrix V3 Electric, and the Piaggio MP3 gas. They have two wheels in front for better braking, and ride & tilt just like a regular (big) cycle - but they have tilt-locking so you never need to put your feet down when you come to a stop. I worked as engineering design manager for on the Vectrix V3 for a time. It's all electric, plus IT GOES BACKWARDS, TOO!!!

It looks like he cleaned up his ~20+ year old design of the Tri-Magnum.

But I don't see how he managed to go from the ~50 MPG 20+ year old 1,200 lb Tri-Magnum.... to 1,480 lb ~125 MPG XR3... numbers look a bit funny to me... it is very hard to make a vehicle 280 pounds heavier and increase the MPG by 150%???

If the XR3 is anything like the Tri-Magnum plans I already have... they were entertaining to read... but not nearly informative enough to build the vehicle unless you already knew enough about engineering to have been able to build the vehicle before you bought his plans.

I would expect the same thing from the XR3 ... buy them if you want something entertaining to read for that much money... but don't expect any ~150 page book to be able to actually explain to you how to build your own car ... unless you already know how to in the first place.
