Hi all,

I recently applied to get a Google Adsense account but my request was turned down without reason. I suspect that the site does not meet their criteria yet , as traffic is still pretty low. I would have joined the Adsense-Program not to make money as some of you might think, but to pay for the server costs.

I am not very upset about Googles decision as it would have been sort of a trial, but I've seen Adsense-accpted websites which had quite questionable content. Welcome to the Google-World! icon_wink.gif

That means, that we can enjoy a bit longer ad-free forum discussions. Instead of displaying Adsense links of car manufacturers trying to sell their fuel-guzzling hybrid vehicles, I thought of implementing banner advertising. This would have the same effect, it would pay for the server, but the advertisers would be more likely related to the content of this site.

What is your opinion as a user/reader of this forum? Do you find advertising annoying or useful or even dreadful?

Hi there,

as long as the banners are not too big and don't have animated content (blinking or moving parts) I could live with advertisments in this forum.

A good option is the way they had it in the Ubuntu-Linux forums at

http://ubuntuforums.org/

You saw the ads only as long as you weren't logged in. I don't know why they discontinued this solution.

Cheers

Thanks for that input Frank. I quite like the idea that advertisements are only displayed when not logged in. It is sort of a reward for logged in users...

I have decided to continue without any advertisement as for now. The costs for the server are minimal. I rather devote my time to improve the content and the functions of the site.

And I fully agree with your opinion about blinking and moving advertisements.
Some of them are really too much...
