According Daimler and Mercedes-Benz manager Dieter Zetsche, the internal combustion engine will be replaced by an emission free drive system. He did not specify when and how fast this will happen though, but he stressed the point that the company is working with 'full steam' on full electrical and fuel cell solutions.

Similar statements were also made by the german manufacturer Audi. Electrical cars made by Audi will be introduced within the next ten years, according Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.

I seriously question these statements. Or do you think it will be possible to see a car of the size of an Audi A4 or A6 respectively a Mercedes Limo to be powered by batteries only and offering the same comfort/range within ten years only?

Or will it be a an electrified version of the A2 or A-class maybe?

I am wondering, how many time it will take further. We often have such statements from directors and CEOs but no action.

Hello michaelm and carmusk, welcome to the forums! It is indeed amazing how long it takes for car companies to change. We will see whether they really mean it or if it is just used for 'green-washing' the image of the company.

In my case, my patience has run out! I will not buy a fossil fuel powered car anymore and switch to an EV, even though the choice is limited. If longer distances have to be covered, go for a hybrid.
