Interesting news. In the article it says that 50kW are delivered at the station and that the system would support the CHAdeMO standard, formed by a newly established association, consisting of companies like Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Fuji Heavy Industries and the Tokyo Electric Power Company. While I think there is nothing wrong with fast charging solutions as such, it will have one huge disadvantage: We will not learn that everything has a limit. Cars will remain what they are: Way too heavy for what they need to do, consuming a lot of electrical power. The high power delivered will heat up the batteries, extra energy is needed to cool them down...and the cleaning up the electrical grid will not be helped either by increasing the overall power consumption. What is your opinion on such developments? Are we heading in the right direction? |

Interesting way of putting this problem.I think that the producers, let's just tale the 2012 Audi A2[same website] wich is announced to be the competitor for the BMW's model, wich, will be launched soon;the fufutre car will be elctric, that's for sure, in my opinion and, therefore, there will be a "war" of the car makers, to take over the market; this war between the car makers[I gave the A2 as an example, because is well-known the Audi-BMW "fight" over the years] equals as an advantage for the consumers:they will try to make the cars more economic, more fuel efficient, or, in such case, power effiecient, and that all cheaper. Am I right? Cheers mate! |

While they celebrate their first fast charging station, others have hundrets of them only in Germany: The http://www.drehstromnetz.de has over 170 fast charging station (at least 10 kW, many with 20 kW). Sorry, website only in German... These "smart" charging station bear a big problem: the charged car needs the same intelligence, so if your car manufacturer does not cooperate with them, the Chargingstation is worthless... Very annoying for people today driving a EV, all of them are not working on such a station.... That ist the reason, why the drehstromnetz ist working, and all the smart charging stations are not: There is still in reality no standart charging procedure for EV'S. The drehstromnetz went a different way: they are using regular high power outlets (used since decades...) and a voluntray payment system. This results in a Charginstation costing 150 € (ecxcluding installation...). Chargingstations from EV-Drivers for EV-Drivers. And it is working. On the Other hand, we have an electricity-Suplier setting up a network of chargingstation, which charges 60 € a month just for getting access to its chargingstations. Electricity costs extra.... But ist ist clear, if your chargingstations cost several thousands or even more than 10000€, you have to charge your customers a lot... I am not saying, that the drehstromnetz is the perfect system (the old high power outlets are not easy to plug, and a voluntary payment system does not fit human mentality...), but i guess it will be the only network, that can provide affortable charging in the next years. Smart charging stations are just to expensive to be affortable. And the EV-Drivers will have to pay the price... [This article was edited 1 times, at last 03.06.2010 at 08:18.] Alleweder 4
