Miles Electric has re-named their XS500 the "Highway Speed" model. Unfortunately, as I half-expected, their earlier estimates turned out to be far too optimistic. They've dropped their estimated 120 mile range to 100 miles-- note this is far below Tesla Motors' claimed 245 mile range-- and raised the price tag to $40-45,000, instead of the $30-35,000 previously claimed. They hope to start selling the car in the USA in about 18 months. This article, based on an interview with company owner Miles Ruben, has a lot more detail about the car than we've seen elsewhere. Previous articles have indicated the car will debut in Europe and appear on the U.S. market later, but no word on the European debut in this article. Thanks for the pointer, I've read the article with interest. Yep, unfortunately this is reality. Most start-ups deliver a car which is a lot more expensive than initially thought. As the main driver for the higher costs I would suspect the batteries. Prices for them has come down only little and quality cells have their price. In my opinion its an illusion to think that driving will become cheaper just because we run cars on (cheaper) electricity. But who knows, maybe there is a (battery)-life after the Li-Ion age...
