According to this article, there are only about 100 Nissan Leafs on the road nationwide. Electric cars slow to take off With all the hype around these cars, this seems like an incredibly low number to me. The 650 Chevy Volt number is obviously higher, but still way below what you'd think given all the talk about these cars. |

I think that it is relatively normal to deliver the slowly at the beginning. As it says in the article "The launch has been a deliberately slow one. We wanted to focus not just on the quality of the product but also the quality of the experience". Nissan and Chevy will ramp up their production over time. In a few months time, those numbers will be a lot higher. It will definitely not be a linear curve. On the other hand we should not be too enthusiastic. In the end the oil price will dictate how many cars are sold. But I wonder if a high oil price is in the interest of the car manufacturer... |
