Indeed, it is one of my root causes not to trust GM, who continues to make the Hummer. I'll believe the Volt, when I can see, touch and feel the Volt and see somebody own and drive one (without a lease). And when they don't cancel it after only 2-3 years...

I totaled (wrecked) my '03 Prius earlier this year after it had 100,000 miles on it -- it did a great job and I'd highly recommend them, as both myself and my passenger walked away from an accident we both easily could've (should've?) died in. We also received a pretty good settlement from the insurance company (1/2-to 1/3 of the cost of a new Prius). However, my family of 4 is doing quite well with the remaining almost 20-year-old 1991 Toyota Camry Sedan (30+ mpg highway) and the 10-year-old Twike 433. In the first year of ownership I put about 4,000 miles on 433, using it for in-town errands, back and forth to work and dropping off/ picking up the girls from school & daycare. Saved on gas and parking.

I have sworn not to buy another car until it can be plugged in, and I -think- I've got my wife's backing on this.

A 20-mile range (in-town-speeds) plug-in diesel (bio-diesel compatible) hybrid minivan would go far to put GM back in black: Soccer moms could drop the kiddos off in the morning running EV-only, plug it in to charge during the day, pick them up in EV-mode only, yet have the convenience of a 'real' engine for extended trips. Greenies would like it for the biodiesel compatibility, and though it's currently not worth it (better to put it on a fixed structure like a house, where you can maximize use by changing the angle), there's enough space on top of a minivan for a decent solar array...

Commute suck? Twike it; You'll like it!
