So I just read an article of Audi US pres trashing the Volt because of its $40k price tag etc. Kinda harsh, but the article had one good point. About 50% of electricity in the US comes from dirty coal, meaning a Volt isn't so green after all. Does anyone know if the Obama administration is even aware of this problem, seems they keep pushing electric cars w/out fixing the coal problem. Must be a lot of coal lobbyists in Washington? banghead.gif

Anyways, here's the article: http://acceltimes.com/news/9/audi-usa-president-claims-volt-car-for-idiots.php

Yes, in the end we often fail because of econimical questions. As i statted bevor, even an EV is only "green" when ist electricity has its origin in a renewable source. But renevalble Energy is still to rare and to expensive, so it is unrealistic to power an "electricity-burner" (i consider the Volt to use to much energy...) renewable.

But there are (even today in the USA) a point in favour of the EV:
First they can be charged at times when the Grid. Load is low. This way electricity can be produced more efficient.
And some more minor benefits...

Cleaning up the electric grid is a task that has to be done anyway, no matter if there are electric cars or not. Never forget, cars are not the only source of polution, and mother earth does not care about the source of polution, just about is amount....

Even though i would not call the Volt a car for Idiots, i aggree, that there are some reasons not to buy one.
At that Price, i will never buy a volt...
For me, the Volt is to heavy and using to much electric energy per mile.
But there are also not many alternatives. I am not able to buy a Plugin HEV here in Germany. And that is much more sad than the Volt been to heavy....

For my long range car i decided for a small diesel and against hybrid technologie, because the advantages of the Hybrid-technologie were too small compared to the price...
