Hi all, you gotta be flexible when running an EV forum like the Green Car Network. New EV's are regularly announced and only a fraction makes it to the production line. So there is occasionally a need to replace some quiet forums with new ones.

I think that the Smart ED has a pretty reasonable chance of making it the production line and eventually to the customers. So I invented this forum. There are also numerous drivers out there who are testing these vehicles at the moment. Enough reasons to launch a new Smart ED forum. icon_smile.gif

So which Smart ED driver is first to say hi here?

Do we have more up to date information on the Smart ED? (Unfortunate name, really!)

Sincerely, Neil

Hi Neil,
Well, not really...other than what we can find on Wikipedia etc...At the moment the car is undergoing so called 'field-testing programs', what ever that might be exactly icon_rolleyes.gif

To me field tests mainly fulfill the following purpose:
- good to polish the image of a car maker
- to be ready with a production vehicle when the boom starts, others will bear the risks
- to get more experience in the field (lack of EV experience and knowledge)

The Mini E trials were a good example to prove the lack of experience as those cars had to see a garage more frequently than their IC equivalents.
Quite often it was the software (BMS) that failed. And unfortunately the guys who do have the experience (niche market producers), do not have the capacity to start mass production...

The Smart ED will come, but it will face harsh competition as other and more innovative cars will have penetrated the market by then.
If all the media reports would have been true, 2010 should have become the year of the EV and many new EVs on the market. But this is, if you believe the media, been postponed to 2012. Only Mitsubishi really held it's promise and with Nissan's Leaf another pure EV is quietly capturing the market...leaving the Smart ED way behind.

Thanks for the link Neil!

BTW: Needed to fix the link because it didn't work.
If you add a link you do not need to use the bb-code. As long as you enter a link like 'http://www.ecocarforum.com', it will automatically rendered as www link.

If you want to link words, like 'Green Car Network' then you would use the bb-code and add the link here:
'(url=here goes your link)Green Car Network(/url)'

Note that the brackets '(' would have to be replaced by '['

Hope this elps icon_smile.gif
Cheers
