Within range and battery discussion we stumble upon some very vague and unprecise expressions like "steep", fast, and so on.

Imho it would help in such cases to specify more precisely the environment where it is planned to use one of the light weight EV's ... I think of using the OpenStreetMap-Projekt where the map data might be displayed with height data example, using the cyclist map.

No matter what I prefer to narrow down details like 'steep' ... 'fast' ... acceleration ... etc...

Another option for the how steep question is to use the path profile app for Goggle Maps.

http://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html

You'll get results like this:
http://www.heywhatsthat.com/bin/profile.cgi?src=profiler&axes=1&curvature=0&metric=0&pt0=34.089346,-118.604622,ff0000&pt1=34.073991,-118.588486,00c000&pt2=34.048393,-118.580589,0000ff

cool, I did not now that ... Is it possible with metric scales?!? Now we need an app to add the energie consumption into such profile, dependant on vehicle and speed.

Metric is just a click away on the above link ... it's a switch hitter site icon_wink.gif
I know it will also do Europe as well as the U.S.

I guess it depends on how accurate you want to get... if you have enough specific data ... and time to crunch the numbers ... you would be able to determine within less than 1% the amount of energy a trip will consume ... but there are allot of variables... including the nut behind the wheel... variables that are changing constantly.

By the way there are other sites and some GPS software does the elevation map thing as well.

As an example... in Spain , going from Madrid to Burgos see bellow:

taken to the next step... is to figure a route based on not which is faster...or shorter... but which route uses the least energy.

Still not 100% ... but bellow is at least one site that is working on an app that does just that.
