Model S built by Daimler Chrysler?

The Roadster is not a car that TM built from sratch and is based on the Lotus Elise chassis, so why not take something already existing? ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network

Plus, they have a high-profile search for land for a manufacturing facility in California for their Model S. Therefore, I will be *highly* surprised if they wind up buying "gliders" from another company to make the Model S, as they currently buy gliders from Lotus for their Roadster. Now, that's not to say that Daimler can't provide some expertise and possibly help them set up their manufacturing plant, and who knows? Perhaps manufacture some sub-assemblies for Tesla. But it does seem that Tesla Motors wants the Model S manufactured under their own roof. [This article was edited 1 times, at last 01.09.2008 at 05:09.]
