Letter to customers from Ze'ev Drori (CEO and President)
Written on: 29 December 2007 [13:07]

Ze'ev has sent a letter to its customers detailing the actual development status of the car.
I would like to give a brief summary of the content:
First of all its good to see that the management communicates so openly. That further increases the trust in the new company and the new product.
Tesla Motors is still working on the transmission problem. As an interim solution a transmission Tesla already has extensive experience with, will be used. These transmissions will meet high standards for reliability and durability, but the car will not meet the original performance spec for acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 5.7 seconds instead of the promised 4 seconds. When the final transmission is ready, all cars will be retrofitted with the new one at Teslas costs.
Production: Full production is still planned to kick off in spring 2008.
Commitment: Tesla is still an independant company and committed to deliver great electric vehicles.
Range Extenders on some vehicles are evaluated and discussed.
Range: Currently an average of 221 miles. Depending on driving style it can be as high as 267 miles (slow city driving) or 165 miles (aggressive highway driving)
The full details of the letter can be read on Ze'ev's blog:
The outlook for electric cars has never been as good as now. We are seeing history unfold, and its exciting to be part of it!
Have you reserved yours?
NB: If your financial situation doesn't allow to order a Tesla, then wait for more infos on Teslas new car with the codename 'Whitestar' or 'Model 2'. Details should be released in 2008. This car might not have the same impressive performance figures as the Roadster, but sells for much less...
