Think Global wants to sell its new Think City for approx. 20'000 Euros. Optionally you can opt for a 'Mobility Pack' for 200 Euros covering full service battery use, car insurance and electricity use. It is estimated that Think City owners will experience low operating costs of ownership. How does a Think City compare with a small petrol or diesel powered car? To do this calculation I've taken cost estimates from our German Twike Forum. One of our users came up with the following figures which are in my opinion realistic: 15'000km/year = 90'000km in 6 years, inflation not accounted for 1,33 EUR/l - 5l/100 (C1), 6l/100km Smart Lada Kalina 1118: Sales Price 7490 EUR Costs over a period of 6 years: 24202,10 EUR Citroen C1 1.0 Style Senso Drive: Sales Price 10960 EUR Costs over a period of 6 years: 24513,80 EUR Smart FourFour Pulse cdi 50 kW: Sales Price 21321 EUR Costs over a period of 6 years: 32596 EUR The above prices include the following: Service, Tyre change, one set of new tyres, 2x MOT/TüV, minor repair costs, unexpected costs, Insurance, Taxes, Fuel Costs and Depreciation. All costs based on German market prices. My estimates for the Think City: 20'000 Euro Car 14'400 Euro Battery Leasing (Mobility Pack) / 72x200 Euro 600 Euro Service / 6x100 Euro 300 Euro Set of new tyres 100 Euro TüV/MOT / 2x50 Euro 300 Euro unexpected costs/minor damages - Euro Insurance (paid by Think Global) - Euro Gas/Petrol/Diesel/Electricity (paif by Think Global) - Euro Tax (assuming its tax free) 6'000 Euro Depreciation (used EV's sell at relatively high prices) Total 41'700 Euro minus the remaining value of the car (14'000 €) = € 27'700 (Cost over 6 years) Service, MOT and unexpected costs are only rough estimates. I cut the costs of a small petrol/diesel car in half for these figures. Best case scenario for the Think, I admit... Environmental benefits are not included in this calculation. As one can see prices are in the same range as for a small petrol or diesel car. Low enough to succeed? Your comments? |
