I do not own a Prius but do have the Insight and due to needing more seats and bigger boot area am considering one.I recently drove a new Prius demonstrator and was most impressed,it was smooth, quiet, comfortable and spacious with all the toys. Here in the UK its only £15 or $30 a year to tax. The car I drove was showing an average fuel comsumption of 58 mpg Imperial, which considering its being tested by various drivers not trying for economy is impressive. Should have no trouble getting 66 mpg plus if experienced in driving a hybrid. I really liked the CVT and found the car very relaxing with plenty of punch when called for.For those who think otherwise its down to knowing the car and how to drive it plus if you have just stepped out of a Viper it will seem slow. If I could keep two cars I would have the Insight for its Alloy body, unparalleled efficiency and uniqueness and the Prius for its room, comfort, relaxing drive, toys and ability to not be that far behind the insight in efficiency especially considering its larger size. What do I like the best about my '03 Prius? That it saved my sorry butt... Fell asleep at the wheel (that's NEVER happened before, and have since been diagnosed with some pretty severe sleep apnea) and came back on going 90 degrees to the direction of traffic and got hit by a semi loaded down with 4 building electricity transformers (think mass, and a lot of it). I walked away from something I could've easily died from. To be sure, a lot of it had to do with luck (or some supreme being watching out for me), however my passenger escaped with minor bumps and bruises, and I had a partially separated shoulder and a slight tear in my MCL (knee ligament). Both should heal on their own with no lingering damage. So now I don't drive a Prius, and Der Twike has become our 'second car' and the '91 Camry is seeing a lot more action. We did get around US$10,000 from the insurance agency for the totaled '03 Prius with over 100k miles on it, and we're seeing if we can hold out until someone (hopefully Toyota) comes out with a plug-in hybrid, anticipated in '09 or '10 I beleive. The car manufacturer that comes out with a biodiesel/diesel plug-in hybrid mini-van that can do 15-20 miles at in-town speeds solely on the electrics is going to make a mint in the US... and I don't really care for minivans! Commute suck? Twike it; You'll like it!
