I live in Providence RI.
Other than flying over the pond... where can I get a test drive?

The closest one on that list from Fine ... is:

TW 159 T & L TOOLS USA 06335 Gales Ferry/HartfordConnecticut

I have family in Pittsburgh Pa ... so I could also swing by :

TW 049 TB Wood's Inc USA 17201 Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

on the way to visit family some time.

But I have not had any luck in my own efforts to contact the owners of either #049 or #159.

I have attended some green car events in the New England area from time to time ... but I haven't seen a Twike in person yet.

I found this forum a little bit ago ... and after lurking for a while I figured I would just come out and ask.

Thanks for any Intel.

Hi iamian

Welcome to the TWIKE Forum! It could be quite difficult indeed to find a TWIKE in your area. Matt aka 'childress' is a TWIKE pilot and a frequent visitor here but lives in Illinois I believe. Maybe he knows more who to contact etc...Another intel is Mike Patterson from twike.us.

I believe most of TWIKEs sold to US customers are probably not actively used anymore since the main years of production around 2000. Only recently the interest in the TWIKE has grown again in the US and there is a chance that one or the other TWIKE makes it across the pond...

I agree... I think that the one registered in CT is not in service any more... But that also kind of makes me want to find out where it went... except I have no leeds and the search area is massive. banghead.gif

But I do like the concept of the Twike and I think a good combination for me and my wife would be for a Twike and my Insight converted to a PHEV.... If I could figure out how to fit generator like pedals in my Insight that would rock... but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I showed some videos and stuff about the Twike to my wife about a year ago... and she likes the idea of a Twike being her next car... but wants a test drive first ... that means between now and then I have to find a Twike for her to test drive... save up to buy a Twike , so that when the time comes it is all setup an ready to go... maybe if I get the test drive and other stuff all lined up ahead of her current car dieing ... maybe she will trade early and just sell her current car.

Well at least Twike #159 is still in Connecticut and still owned by the same guy.

It turns out he is part of a bicycle group. I emailed him. And as luck would have it he responded. He had battery problems with his Twike and parked it... so it isn't on the road any more.

I offered to lend a hand, if he needed any help with restoration ... I have worked on NiMH batteries in Civics and Insights ... and I would love to get to see a Twike in person .. instead of just on the pictures and videos on-line.

Now I have to wait... I think it is very likely he will be too busy and or the Twike will be too buried ... but No harm in asking ... and at least I did find out that it is still there... just not in service currently.

Ian a little tip from my experience in buying classic car's, be persistant in your requests to help, look at or purchase this car. Even to the point of arranging a visit on the premise that you will be in the area on other business, anything to get a "foot in the door" or your name remembered.
Use the present economic climate to your advantage by sowing the seed into the present owners mind that he could turn this unused Twike into cash.
This sounds like a perfect situation for buying to me and by not having the Twike already on the road indicates he is not into sorting stuff, so use this as a lever to buy and for negotiating the price.
Its just not possible to try some things before you buy and this is one instance. If you sort it for him you may get a drive but you will have lost your advantage for negotiation and or purchase and will still be Twikeless.

I don't want to be too pushy... ( just not my style ) .... so I will give him plenty of time... besides... at the moment I have plenty of projects keeping me busy anyway... if I don't hear from him... eventually I might give him another bump. banghead.gif

But, for as much as I would like to reuse an older Twike instead of getting a newer one... there is appeal to getting a new one as well... and there is also appeal in fixing up an older Twike to add more service life to it... even if it isn't getting used by me... so if it doesn't work out with him, either way... then eventually I'll do something.
