I think this is a quite difficult, but none-the-less also simple question to answer ... It depends on the approach. While usage the actual EV are a little more eco-friendly than gasoline cars - BUT in proportion of the whole lifecycle the difference is much too small to say that the now proposed concepts of the car industry are "green". Sadly its a bit difficult to find a lifecycle environment impact of cars. A small hint: http://green.autoblog.com/2006/12/24/lifecycle-analysis-of-gas-hybrid-and-electric-cars/. So I believe that the biggest influence we have is the personal change of attidude towards an earth friendly lifestyle! It is not possible to compensate a half-around-the world flight by the best EV ... A thirty kg dog cause, because of being a carnivore, a similar CO2 emission as a SUV. These facts can not be ignored! We have to go down to a per capita CO2 emission by more than 80% (Europe) or 90% (US, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, ...) |
