Hello everyone!

There was no hiding the fact that Zap’s Xebra electric car range was a bit on the basic side, but that is about to change with the new 2009 model. The new Zap Xebra electric car was being shown at the Sacramento International Auto Show.

The new model is a five-door hatchback and has rear folding seats; the rear cargo area is now much larger than previous models, as well as giving you more headroom. It looks as though the Zap Xebra is now more of a normal car, than the previous models.

The 2009 model has a steel body, much better than the earlier model which was made from fiberglass.

Video link is now bad... I would consider most of these 'improvements' listed as negatives.

5 door/hatchback: The average US household size is under 2.6 and has been falling over the past decade (decades?). 4-5 passenger vehicle is overkill.

Steel Skin: A lighter skin such as that used by the US auto manufacturer Saturn that doesn't dent/rust would be preferred.

Looking like a normal car: Most first/early adopters WANT to stand out.

This ZAP 2009 model is better than the previous ones. As technology innovations surprise us rapidly, for sure we will not be shocked to see a whole new model from them for the coming years.

ZAP discontinues the Xebra

In a recent ZAP financial report, it was stated that the ZAP Xebra vehicle will no longer be in production. Here is the quote:

“The decrease of $1.5 million (in revenue) is primarily due to the phase out of our three wheeled Xebra vehicle with reduced selling prices.”
The Xebra World website isn't going anywhere though. ZAP still has Xebra parts and there are still a few dealers left out there as well. I am also adding more Xebras to the Xebra Classifieds so keep checking back for great deals on Xebras.
