According to Martin Eberhard's blog, the axe has been steadily chopping away at Tesla. Since Martin left, the company booted out many more employees. 26 names of sacked employees are listed on the blog... People inside the company feel insecure and nobody knows who is next. An employee writes: "Tesla Motors was really Martin Eberhard’s company. After you were gone, I think the spirit and the character of the company went with you." “Sadly - and I do mean this - I am not sorry to leave. The culture that Martin and Marc created is gone. The car is nice, but every day in the office was like a visit to the dentist, not knowing what was going to happen next. Enough. I have moved on.” Not much has been reported in the press about the ongoings at Tesla. But if things continue the way they are now, the company heads for a troubled start. An we all know what that means... One wonders why Tesla has chosen this way. ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network

Well, all I know is what I've read on the Tesla Motors Club forum, and Martin Eberhard's personal blog, and a few other articles here and there. That is, I have no "insider info". What seems to be the case is that the repeated delays in getting production started on the Roadster caused the investors to put pressure on the company to concentrate on actually getting the car into production. I have absolutely no idea if those who were fired were actually being obstructionist, or were just scapegoats for the problems. My guess would be some of both. Anyway, Tesla Motors has apparently finally solved the major problems they were having, mainly with the transmission, and is now very slowly producing cars. They said they were going to start at one car a week, but for the first few weeks it's only been about one car per two weeks. I just read the other day they had put #6 and #7 on the production line. Still, they insist they will finish the year on schedule, with IIRC something between 600 and 800 cars being produced. Personally I wouldn't bet on them reaching 600, but it does seem they are, finally, producing real cars, which has thankfully silenced a lot of the naysayers. |
