The dream of inexpensive, ecofriendly aviation has come closer to reality after a french testpilot achieved the first flight in a conventional light aircraft powered by an electric motor on 23 December 2007. The aircraft is called Electra, is a single seater and flew for 48 minutes about a distance of 30 miles. The APAME group, founded to develop green aviation, used a Souricette kit aircraft and adapted to it a 25 hp electrical engine (same type as used in golf carts).
