The car is powered by lithium ion batteries. Here some specs: Overall length: 3,450 mm Overall width 1,600 mm Seating capacity: 2 + 2 Motors Permanent magnetic synchronous motors Front: In-wheel motors Rear: Single motor Max. output Front: 20kW; Rear: 47kW Max. Speed 180km/h Range: 200km The car features photovoltaic panels on the roof to extend its range. A power generating fan is incorporated in the front grille. Potential buyers of the car can register their interest on their website: (For the time beiing only for UK) http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/futuremodels/index.asp The projected range of the vehicle has been corrected to a more realistic 160km (100 miles) instead of the previously announced 200km. I hope the announcement of the i-MiEV is real and the car will make it onto our streets. The more people register the more likely the car will be put into production...So, why not giving it a try! Here is a final roundup of the latest information about the car, including links to press articles that have already added to the anticipation surrounding the i-MiEV. Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have created a joint venture with GS Yuasa Corporation to accelerate the development and production of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion is the essential ingredient that marks the i-MiEV's electrical powertrain out from the established hybrid competition, which use older, less efficient battery technology. Looks like Mitsubishi is trying to get a jump on the competition by planning to release an electric car in 2009 when everyone else has 2010 targeted. I wish them luck, altho the nonsense about a propeller behind the grille to provide extra power does cause me to doubt that they have a plan fully worked out. As many or most of you know, the drag on a propeller would cause the car to lose more speed than would be gained by the electricity generated by the spinning propeller. The idea of perpetual motion is *so* attractive... too bad it can't work.
