Lensman registered since: 31.05.2008 Posts: 77	That's odd. It has an AC motor but also a 5-speed transmission. I've read on the EAASV Bay Area forum for EV owners than a transmission is needed, or at least helpful, for a DC motor which has a limited range of efficient operating speeds. But a well-developed AC electric motor should have such a wide range of efficient speeds that a transmissions should be unnecessary, or at most should need only 2 gears. At least, this is my understanding, but I'm still learning about this subject.
