Dreifels AG in Switzerland is currently testing the newest generation of Lithium batteries, the LiFePO4 - cells. Twike 001 is equipped with a battery pack holding 4.6 kWh of energy and delivering 12Ah. Each of the 4 modules is 17kg and with the 12Ah a range of about 80-110 km is possible (50-70 miles). A second and more affordable battery is working in Twike 033. It is equipped with a battery with 3.0 kWh delivering 8Ah. More infos can be found on the Twike Klub Website: http://www.dreifels.ch/page.asp?DH=77 ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network

For the German impaired: Translations - Google: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dreifels.ch%2Fpage.asp%3FDH%3D77&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8: This is great info, especially as it's the Twike 001! I wonder if it would be possible to get the Twike Klub to add AltaVista's free 'Translate this page' script -- http://www.altavista.com/help/free/free_searchbox_transl It translates German to French & English, but it's better than nothing (and more convenient than Google)... Commute suck? Twike it; You'll like it!

Thanks Matt for the translation links...should have mentioned that the link goes to a german page. Interesting detail: The new cells use 4.6kWh/100km or 60 miles from the battery respectively only 5.75kWh/100km from the grid which is even better than the new LION batteries (about 6.3kWh). dreifels AG says on their website that they plan to sell a 15kWh battery pack somewhen later during this year. I've contacted them about it as I am keen on getting a Twike somewhen this year and who knows, maybe the new battery is available by then! ecocarforum.com - Green Car Network
